What a certified fund has to show

Mindful Money certifies funds that meet its published criteria. A certified fund has to show four things:

  • It avoids harm. It stays out of companies that damage people, the climate or the environment.
  • It's an active owner. It engages with the companies it holds, including voting at their meetings.
  • It has a positive impact. It can show what it contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
  • It's run ethically. It gives evidence of transparency, diversity and climate action.

What it screens out

The check is based on holdings, not promises: Mindful Money looks at the companies a fund actually invests in. Its companies of concern fall into six areas.

  • Fossil fuels
  • Weapons
  • Animal cruelty
  • Human rights violations
  • Social harm
  • Harm to the oceans

Where you'll see it on Find My Fund

A fund Mindful Money certifies carries a note saying so on its fund page, and provider pages say how much of a provider's range is certified. That's Mindful Money's independent assessment against its own criteria, not our judgement.

On its own site, Mindful Money's Fund Checker lets you look up a New Zealand fund and see the companies it invests in.

Mindful Money is a registered charity (CC51919) and separate from Find My Fund. This page describes its work. It isn't a recommendation of any fund or financial advice.
